Buying birthday gifts is a hard thing to do. And it was especially hard this time around for The Boy's birthday. For one, there were budget and idea issues. And two, I've been buying in colognes and clothes and making him special meals several times over the past three months that when it came to his actual birthday, I had nothing creative to offer. And my most creative ideas were over the past three years with the ex-es so it doesn't seem to be fair to replicate one of my previous thoughtful gifts.
And so I made him banana bread. Two batches, with chocolate chips and an overload of walnuts.
And some brownies. Which taste like a chocolate cake and fudge and brownie all rolled into one. So I guess I just made him a 'brudgake'. I'm going to tell people its Slovenian. Why? I'm sure no one knows what people in Slovenia eat so I could pass it off as a real authentic cultural dessert.
It was a low key birthday. I couldn't even stay up till 12 to wish him. And with the Ann Arbor Art Fair taking over the streets, my special fancy dinner the next night didn't really hold good. But we did go to Corner Brewery over at Ypsilanti, just the two of us, bought some pizza and settled down with a word rummy game and tall glasses of beer. The Birthday Boy is a poor sport and one might even call him a 'very sore loser'. He gets angry and irritable when hes losing and quarrels over the authenticity of words like 'zune', 'proamed', 'dazy' and 'diuvet'. I just stare back in disbelief. But we had a great night. Corner Brewery will always be special to us. We sat at the same table the first weekend where we were unabashedly flirting and sizing each other up.
I'm excited for the Running on the Rails 5K run that we've planned to do. Some motivation to lose weight.
Yeehessss!
